OUR PROJECT |
The purpose of the project is creating a day care Center for teenagers of 13 or elder with cerebral palsy and mental disabilities, which nowadays do not attend any school or educational institutions in the town. Besides learning these young people are deprived of intercommunication, practically isolated from society and desperately in need of social rehabilitation. The decision of problem on their learning and leisure will simultaneously enable their mothers to find job and promote resumption to normal human life. There is impelling need in such Center because a lot of families in our town have hard difficulties with their disabled children.
A working day of such Center should be at least 6-7 hours; children should gain hot nutrition and have possibility to have a rest, if it is required. Individual lessons will help younger children to acquire useful skills improving the faculties of the mind and motor function movements. The speech therapist will work to improve their communication skills such as speaking and comprehension. He also addresses cognitive problems and swallowing difficulties. At the Center we plan to carry out complex treatment by medication-free methods (acupuncture, api-therapy, girudo-therapy, massage, plant-therapy, labor therapy, remedial gymnastics, etc.). Specialists of our organization have extensive experience in treatment of mentally handicapped children and children with cerebral palsy, so they can conduct all necessary work. For juveniles we are going to create a workshop where they could do a simple work, learn skills so that to have opportunity to find job according to their abilities later. This is very important as the job would decrease their feeling of disability, solitude, and would be useful for their families.
To start with we are going to create two groups for boys and girls (approximately 15-20 juveniles) at the age between 12 and 18 with cerebral pathologies, that can't attend any schools in our town. We plan to rent a part of usual nursery school (a flank with separate entrance) and to locate two bedrooms, two playrooms, a classroom, and a room for gymnastics and massage on this area. Feeding of children could be easy arranged on the base of the host school's kitchen. There will be no payment for residence at the Center and treatment except small tuition fee in the size of invalid's pension - US $ 10 per month.
Creation of such center is of great importance for mothers of disabled children, as this would relieve them of daily cares of their children, give an opportunity to find job, raise the level of life in families and give moral satisfaction. A lot of women had lost their specialty, as they had to stay at home during many years and take care of their children. Most of them have hard psychological problems, which they can't decide by themselves. Usually these families live at the extreme of poverty and in hard psychological conditions. Women and children of such families are in urgent need of help. Our Center will create workplaces of nurses, masseurs or labor instructors for invalids' mothers and offer a number of free-of-charge services:
- Jurist consulting;
- Medical and psychotherapeutic consulting;
- Group psychotherapy lessons;
- Courses of computer training giving skills in computer based work and Internet;
- Fitness classes;
- Therapeutic massage.
Approximate budget of the 1-st year of working of the Center is US $ 20,000.
Successful implementation of our project will bring the following results:
- The Center of psychosocial and labor rehabilitation will be created for children, which have no opportunities for learning. It will give them a hope of better life.
- Improvement of physical, mental and adaptation abilities of a group of children through the course of complex rehabilitation at the Center;
- Improvement of living conditions in a number of families with disabled children;
- Promotion of further development of our organization, particularly by strengthening its technical basis and improvement of professional level and organizational skills of its members;
- Strengthening authority of our organization among officials and public;
- Greater understanding of the function of grassroots' non-profit organizations within a democratic society among citizens and businesses in such a way, which will foster a more supportive and participatory donor culture.
We hope that due to our activity the women will believe - by joint efforts they can change their own life and life of their children to the best.
